Nokia has just reinvented a cheap flip phone with google Assistant

The problem with feature phones is that in many cases they lack exactly that functionality. HMD Global, which manufactures handsets under the Nokia brand, hopes to get around that with the Nokia 2720 V Flip, a feature phone with smartphone-like features.

Announced today (May 13), the $79.99 phone seems to be targeting shoppers who want more smartphone power without raising the price. To that end, the Nokia 2720 V Flip comes with Google Assistant built in and the ability to download apps through KaiSuite.

Even better, the phone can connect on Verizon's LTE network. (The Nokia 2720 V Flip is sold exclusively by Verizon.) The apps that run on this flip phone look like gold leaf, but the Nokia 2720 V Flip can also be used as a mobile hotspot, allowing you to access your laptop network through your phone! Keep in mind that.

Still, at it's heart, the Nokia 2720 V Flip remains a feature phone for those not ready to make the leap to a smartphone candy bar design. Much like the Nokia 2720 of yesteryear, this is a flip phone with modern features: on the outside of the 2720 V Flip is a 1.3-inch screen that notifies you of notifications and incoming calls. The flip can be opened to answer a call, and closed to end a call.

Inside the phone, a 2.8-inch main screen and physical keyboard await, and HMD Global says it expects 26 days of battery life on standby. That's impressive in a world where the best phone battery life in a smartphone is measured in hours, not days.

As noted, the phone will be sold exclusively on Verizon; the $79.99 Nokia 2720 V Flip will be available a week later on May 20.
