Talk about a delayed flight. TOP GUN: Maverick finally hits theaters this summer, more than 30 years after the 1986 cult film's initial release. Original star Tom Cruise appears in the sequel and we meet a new pilot, but Cruise is not the only familiar face.

Details of the film are confidential. If I tell you, I'll have to kill you. Cruise reprises his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.

Maverick is currently a flight instructor at Miramar Top Gun, mentoring the son of his late flight partner Nick "Goose" Bradshaw. The trailer below doesn't tell us much else. But honestly, not much more than great aerial photography is needed to get excited about the return of "Top Gun."

During San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Tom Cruise appeared at Paramount Pictures' panel for Terminator: Dark Fate and showed the first trailer for: Maverick. The action star wears aviator sunglasses and looks like he just came off the original set.

In this clip, Maverick's credentials are enumerated by his commanding officer, and his reckless nature still seems intact. We also get a glimpse of his colleagues, played by Jon Hamm and Jennifer Connelly.

Jon Hamm joins the cast as a hard-nosed naval officer. He told Collider that he was impressed by the aerial action: "There's not a lot of CG used. Those guys are really in airplanes, and they're being thrown around by multiple G's."

Finally, John Hamm is cast as a hard-nosed naval officer.

In the final scene, Ed Harris tells Maverick that he is dying. The end is inevitable, Maverick, and species like yours are headed for extinction." Can someone say "drone warfare?"

In an interview with Empire, Barbaro said that "Top Gun: Maverick" is focused on giving equality to the first female pilot of Top Gun. She explained: "Tom, the production team, and the Navy really cared about making Phoenix as smart, talented, and capable a woman as possible.
