fourth stimulus check? California is getting new payment600 payments

While the fourth stimulus package has yet to gain sufficient legislative momentum, many Californians may soon receive new aid from the state government.

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced a new stimulus package for state residents on Monday. According to the Los Angeles Times, Governor Newsom intends to send benefits to two-thirds of Californians, including low-income and middle-class families.

Individuals with incomes of $75,000 or less in California would receive $600. This income standard is consistent with that used across the country in all three federal stimulus checks passed during the pandemic.

The California governor also proposed an additional $500 for families with children. Immigrant families without legal status would also receive $500.

The California Legislature must vote on Governor Newsom's stimulus proposal during state budget negotiations. If passed, however, it would be the largest state's own tax incentive package in history.

The California stimulus package is part of an existing program called Golden State Stimulus, which already provides a one-time payment of $600 to $1,200 to eligible residents.

Under the Governor's new proposal, only those not receiving this payment would be eligible. When the Golden State Stimulus Program was first launched, the income cap was $30,000.

Now, more middle-class Californians could receive more relief if Governor Newsom's expansion proposal is passed.

SFGate reports that details of the Governor's plan will be released this week. Governor Newsom reportedly has the support of the California Senate and Assembly budget committees, and state residents should feel optimistic that they will receive more financial relief.
