Asus has just revealed a slew of new gaming laptops — here's what you need to know

Asus has announced a rich crop of new and refreshed ROG laptops to be launched this year, bringing new competition to the best gaming laptops on the market. The big news here is that all of these laptops have the latest Intel 11th generation Tiger Lake and AMD RYZEN5000 series Cpus and the latest in most models. The Nvidia GeForce RTX30 series Gpus

however, Asus has so far been vague as to which particular next-generation chips will be used on some laptops and configurations, possibly reflecting ongoing uncertainty over inventory due to current chip shortages.

Here is a brief overview of what should be noted about this latest round of Asus gaming laptops. For more information on pricing and availability, check out the Asus Asus website.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is our top gaming laptop pick, paired with the latest AMD Ryzen9 5000 series Cpus (up to Ryzen9 5900HS) and the latest Nvidia GeForce Gpus.

Asus has actually lowered the g14's advertised battery life to a (still respectable) 10 hours, down from the 14 hours with the ryzen9 4000 series chips in its review of the G11 last year. When it comes to storage, the G14 can be configured with up to 32GB of DDR4RAM and up to 1TB of NVMe SSDs.

The new G14 also has a configurable display capable of adaptive synchronization, with the option to reach up to 1440p120Hz screens or 1080p144Hz screens. Like all of Asus's new laptops, it incorporates Dolby Atmos technology for improved sound quality. The choice of ports is admirable, with 2 USB-C ports (one that supports DisplayPort1.4), 2 USB-A ports, an HDMI port and a microphone/headphone jack.

In particular, you can configure the G14 to include Asus's AniMe Matrix, a customizable LED-lit display built into the back of the lid. If you want to splurge for an animated matrix, customize the simple images and animations that appear on the diagonal part of the lid with Leds embedded

Asus's new ROG Flow x13 is a 13.4-inch 2-in-1 laptop built for performance, and Asus uses Thunderbolt4.

The pitch here is simple: carry a 2.9-pound laptop for daily work and play, flip between notebook and tablet mode if necessary, and connect the portable to an external GPU setup when you get home to get more power for serious games. Access a lot of power. The ROG Flow x13 will ship with a choice of RYZEN9 5980HS or RYZEN9 5900HS CPU and Nvidia GeForce GTX1650GPU. With these Cpus, Asus claims that the ROG Flow x13 should last up to 11 hours on battery power, and that the included charger can power your laptop up to 30% in 50 minutes.

Customers can be customized with either a 1080p120hz display or a 4K60Hz touchscreen, both options are offered in Gorilla glass and a 0.2-inch side bezel with a 16:10 aspect ratio. When it comes to connectivity, you can expect the ROG Flow x13 to have 1 USB-A port, 1 USB-C port, its own jack for external GPU connections, an HDMI port and a headphone jack. The laptop also supports Wi-Fi6 and Bluetooth5.

Built to appeal to gaming enthusiasts, Asus's new 15-inch and 17-inch Strix G laptops are pitched as eSports machines that can be customized with the latest Nvidia or AMD Gpus and loads of RAM. Of course, laptops sold in the eSports market are not complete without the built-in RGB lights and some colorful paint work. Strix doesn't seem to be slouch in this division, but Asus ships with an improved RGB light bar, and the 3rd edition of Asus's rugged TUF Gaming 15 and 17-inch laptops, which are aimed squarely at durability enthusiasts with grey, red, and Electropunk 2021 color options, is Intel's latest Octa console. Up to Nvidia GeForce RTX3060.

If you prefer AMD over Intel, these are rugged gaming laptops to watch.

These 15-inch and 17-inch notebooks are the same as the Intel variant that was otherwise refreshed. That means up to 32GB of DDR4RAM and up to 1TB of NVMe PCIe SSD, as well as slots for the 2nd SSD are also included.

The new 2021 Zephyrus M16 is Asus' first 16-inch gaming laptop. The big buzz here is the 1440p165hz display, which Asus claims to be a 16-inch display that fits in a 15-inch chassis.

Asus says the very slim bezel on all sides of the 16:10 display can get a screen-to-body ratio of 94%. Inside the Zephyrus M16's 4.2-pound chassis, there are customizable configurations for next-generation Intel Cpus and Nvidia GeForce RTX3060.
