Samsung's Cheap New iPad Rival Leaked — Meet the Galaxy Tab A7Lite

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is definitely on its way. Samsung previously leaked this model on its European and Russian support sites, revealing that the official name will be SM-T225; the A7 Lite is a scaled-down version of the Tab A7, which is already a fairly affordable 10.4-inch tablet.

According to 91Mobiles, new leaks seem to suggest that the new Lite model will come with some reduced specs, including 3GB of RAM and a Mediatek MT8768N processor. The screen has a modest resolution of 1340 x 800 at 213 dpi; a 4G version with a Snapdragon 750 processor is also rumored.

In addition, there are leaked reports that the tablet will have a 5,100mAh battery, USB-C fast charging (15W), and the now seriously endangered headphone jack. the A7 Lite will probably not have fingerprint scanning. 11 will be on board.

The A7 Lite could, at least in theory, provide a decent alternative for those with modest tablet needs. Older users and children are particularly strong users of budget tablets, as they have more screen real estate than cell phones and are capable enough for a little social media, video watching, and light gaming.

But things get tricky for tablets approaching the iPad's price point: the 2020 iPad Air starts at $600, which is not cheap, but it is certainly much more powerful than lower-priced Android tablets. Also, whereas Android tablets have consistently failed to design for larger screen sizes, the iPad Air arguably has a more engaged developer community.

Things get even trickier when one recalls that the iPad (8th generation, 2020) can be bought these days starting at $329. At this price, it only has 32GB of storage, but still offers many of the features people crave and is arguably the most competitively priced product Apple currently sells.

However, given the Tab A7's MSRP of about $230, the Lite version could be a more affordable option; the A7 Lite is likely to be much more attractive than the $350 S6 Lite for those on a tight budget, but specs are considerably lower and will probably not have S Pen support.
