We've heard rumors that Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3 will support the S Pen, but what about the Galaxy Z Flip 3? That's a possibility.

According to a new trademark application (via LetsGoDigital) filed with the EU Intellectual Property Office, it appears so. The trademark is for the "Z Flip," which we knew was coming, but the description lists both "electronic pen" and "capacitive stylus for touchscreen devices."

In other words, it suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip 3, which is expected to arrive this summer, will be compatible with Samsung's only mobile stylus, the S Pen.

It could be argued that Samsung did not intend to add S Pen support to the Z Flip 3, merely adding a default description for the upcoming phone. However, LetsGoDigital checked the trademark application for the Z Flip model last year and found no mention of a stylus or electronic pen.

This is a pretty big sign that something is afoot, and could be an extra nail in the coffin of Samsung's Galaxy Note series. as the Galaxy S series grows in size and features more and more like the Note, the S Pen is almost remained.

Adding an S Pen to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 makes a lot of sense, given that it is essentially a tablet that can make good use of a stylus. However, now that the S Pen has been added to the Galaxy S21 Ultra and may be added to the Galaxy Z Flip 3, the notebook seems to be becoming more outdated with every release.

We haven't heard anything so far about the Z Flip 3 supporting the S Pen, so don't get your hopes up too high. After all, the trademark is valid for 10 years, and since the exact Z Flip device has not been identified, Samsung may be holding off on future models.

The only downside is that the Z Flip 3 will likely not come standard with an S Pen; like the S21 Ultra, a stylus will almost certainly be an option for those who really want one. That means the S Pen probably won't fit inside the phone; a foldable case that can hold the S Pen will be required.

We don't know much about the Galaxy Z Flip 3 right now other than the fact that it will most likely be released alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 at the end of the summer. But watch this space, and we'll bring you the biggest news of all when we hear it.
