11 New Movies and Shows to Watch on Netflix, HBO Max, Disney Plus and more

New movies and shows are blossoming on streaming services and television. This week, several new series premiere, including Peacock's Tina Fey comedy "Girls5eva," Disney Plus' animated "Star Wars" spin-off "Bad Batch," and Netflix's superhero saga "Jupiter's Legacy," which airing. But (sad face) the final seasons of "Shrill" and "Castlevania" will also air. These are two major TV shows that will be censored or terminated in 2021. [At least until "Quiet Place 2" hits theaters later this month, and there are plenty of new TV shows on broadcast and cable, including season 2 of "The Hills" and the finale of "Married at First Sight. If you've turned off cable TV, sign up for one of the best cable alternatives to access your favorite channels.

Here are my picks for shows to watch this week.

Series Premiere | Season 1, Episodes 1-8 If the Spice Girls were making a comeback right now. That's the premise of Girls5eva, from creator Meredith Scardino and executive producers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock.30 If you liked Rock, you'll enjoy the sharp jokes and satirical wit of Girls5eva. The film tells the story of a '90s girl group that gets another chance to hit it big. Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, and Sara Bareilles give great performances, and (warning) you won't be able to get their big songs out of your head.

Series Finale | Season 3, Episodes 1-8 All good things must come to an end. Aidy Bryant's comedy found its voice last season in Annie's journey of self-discovery with a deft blend of humor and pathos. She came out stronger as she dealt with online trolls, a terrible boyfriend, a quirky boss, and society's fat phobia. Brian told reporters earlier this year that "at the end of the day, there are no cherries and no golden prizes," but he promised an ending that would satisfy fans. With that in mind, I think Annie's journey will come to a beautiful conclusion."

Series Premiere | Season 1, Episodes 1 and 2 Clone Wars fans are in luck. My colleague Tom Pritchard believes that The Bad Batch is essentially another season of The Clone Wars. This new animated series, also a product of Dave Filoni's imagination, follows a group of elite clone troopers who have undergone a genetic mutation shortly after the events of "The Clone Wars" and "Revenge of the Sith." The first episode premiered on May 4 (aka Star Wars Day), and the second episode was released on the regular Friday schedule.

The Season 2 premiere, Episodes 1-9The workplace comedy set in a video game studio comes into its own this season with expanded characters and a spotlight on Danny Pudi's monetization director In a review of Mythic Quest Season 2, colleague Henry T. Casey described it as "nine episodes that are perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon." He also compares it favorably to its Apple TV Plus sibling "Ted Lasso," the current comedy gold standard.

In the trailer for the series premiere | Season 1, Episodes 1-6 above, Che only half-jokes that his new sketch/variety show will be "uncomfortable to watch." The comedian definitely wants to push buttons, and That Damn Michael Che seems to be the spiritual successor to Chappelle's Show. He takes on everything from police brutality to white privilege to dating with the help of guest stars like Colin Jost, Cecily Strong, Billy Porter, and Method Man.

Series Premiere | Season 1, Episodes 1-8More than three years after Netflix acquired Mark Millar's comic book publishing company, the first Miller World project is finally streaming. Jupiter's Legacy is an epic that spans decades, focusing on an early group of superheroes who came to power in the 1930s. Today, their children also have powers, but struggle to live up to their parents' legendary feats. The ensemble cast includes Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, Matt Lanter, and Ben Daniels.

Limited Series First Airing|May 11, 3am ETA If you are confused by the American financial system (as I am), this documentary will be very educational. It delves into banking, credit cards, student loan debt, retirement savings, and much more. It also touches on the Robinhood case earlier this year, which I understood very little about.

Season 2 Premiere | May 11 at 9 p.m. Kristin Cavallari, who first anchored the Laguna Beach/Hills universe, struts into "New Beginnings" season 2 to stir up some drama. They're also dealing with a pandemic. And, of course, there is the usual petty bickering and gossiping about each other. This season, Spencer and Heidi try to have another baby, Brody struggles with his past, and Audrina tries to date as a single mom.

Season 12 Finale | May 12, 8 p.m. ET This season of "Married at First Sight" was a huge mess. At this point, it's not a slam dunk for any of the couples to stay together on "Decision Day." It's been a long time since the experts completely blanked out a match, and Season 4 was the last time all couples divorced. Personally, I like the experts to make the right decision and I hope at least one couple will be happy (please, Briana and Vincent).

Series Finale|Season 4, Episodes 1-10 will be available on May 13 at 3 a.m. ETS Vampire hunter Trevor Belmont and sorcerer Cypher Bernades battle Count Dracula and his demon army in the animated series "Castlevania," with season 4 being the last! The series will be the last of its kind in the world. With Wallachia in turmoil and Dracula's followers attempting to resurrect him, an epic conclusion is expected, and fans can pull out their stakes as Netflix plans a spin-off set in the world of Castlevania.

Series Premiere|Episodes 1-2 Available May 13 at 3 a.m. ETOK, Hux, Jean Smart's got me. It's no coincidence that every show this actress has been on has been great ("East Town Lovers," "Watchmen," "Legion," "Fargo"). Now she's trying to appeal to a younger audience by starring in a legendary old Las Vegas comedy role. Her agent sends Eva (Hannah Einbinder), a 25-year-old comedian of the millennial generation who is being treated disgracefully in L.A. "She's a very good comedian, but she's also a very good actress, and she's a very good actor," says Einbinder.
