iOS14.5.1 Emergency Security Update — Why You Need It Now

Update your iPhone to iOS 14.5.1 ASAP! Otherwise, you risk encountering dangerous bugs

Two serious security issues were found in iOS 14.5 that, if exploited, would effectively allow others to remotely control your iPhone. 14.5.1 update closes these loopholes, so it is best to download it ASAP! It is best to download it immediately.

Apple's security update page specifies these problems as a "memory corruption issue" discovered by 360 ATA researchers and an "integer overflow" discovered by an anonymous user. Both of these affect Webkit, the browser engine that powers web content such as Safari and Apple's Mail app. They can then lead to "arbitrary code execution" that can enable device hijacking.

The same problem was found on Macs, but has now been fixed in a macOS update. Similarly, as noted by ThreatPost, another Webkit bug with the same potential consequences was recently fixed for older iPhones in an iOS 12 update.

Downloading iOS 14.5.1 will protect you from potential cybercriminals, but it does not fix several other issues with the iPhone's latest features. The biggest example is that the toggle button to enable App Tracking Transparency is still buggy and appears grayed out for no good reason. Fortunately, iOS 14.5.1 fixes an issue where the app no longer shows tracking details to the user after disabling and re-enabling app tracking.

If you're not already using iOS 14.5, Apple has introduced a number of welcome updates: you can now unlock your iPhone from your Apple Watch, perfect if you're wearing a mask and cannot use Face ID; Siri voice has been added, and you can now use your iPhone to unlock your iPhone from your Apple Watch, Siri voice has also been added, which is useful if you want to change the voice of your digital assistant.
