Apple may have a brand new Magic keyboard for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2021. In fact, there is a better version, $100 cheaper.

Brydge's new 12.9 MAX+ works with 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation iPad Pro models, including the new iPad Pro 2021. In addition, it is designed to provide a more laptop-like experience as well as being cheaper.

The latest Magic Keyboard attaches to the back of the iPad Pro and holds the tablet in the air with a "floating" design, a bit like how the iMac 2021's screen works without touching the desk.

The Brydge 12.9 MAX+, on the other hand, is more like the older Magic Keyboards and attaches magnetically to the back of the tablet. Importantly, however, it has the same hinged design as the laptop, allowing the screen angle to be adjusted freely.

The magnetic connection also means that the tablet can be easily removed and used as a tablet rather than as a hybrid laptop.

The Brydge 12.9 MAX+ also has a trackpad that is much larger than Apple's latest keyboard, which will appeal to many and supports multi-touch gestures. On top of that, the keys are backlit and there is a row of physical shortcut keys along the top of the keyboard.

MacRumors notes that the 12.9 MAX+ is not the most sturdy design and wobbles when you tap the iPad screen. This does not seem to be a safety issue.

The only major drawback is that it is a Bluetooth keyboard and does not utilize Apple's Smart Connector. This means that the keyboard needs to be recharged regularly.

According to the spec sheet, it can be used for approximately 180 hours without backlighting and up to 40 hours with key illumination. All charging is done via USB-C, so the same cable can be used as for the iPad Pro.

The Brydge 12.9 MAX+ is available for pre-order now for $249.99. This is $100 less than Apple's product. The keyboard will be available in silver, white, and space gray and will ship in June.

This means that if you want a laptop-like device with a mini LED screen, this is one of the better options, until the MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021 is released later this year
