A new video has been released that confirms the longstanding rumors about changes to the iPhone 13 that Apple will unveil this fall. Now, a new video shows what the upcoming iPhone will look like, confirming many of the longstanding rumors.

The new video from Unbox Therapy purports to show off some of the physical changes coming to at least one of Apple's new phones this fall. The video shows a unit that appears to be an iPhone 13 Pro Max dummy, which, if accurate, would likely punctuate some iPhone 13 rumors.

Dummy units are usually based on leaked schematics of upcoming phones. It is a non-working model often used by accessory manufacturers who want the release of new gear, such as cases, to be as close to the release of the phone as possible. Therefore, there is a strong incentive to keep the dimensions as close to the actual product as possible.

The creator of this iPhone 13 Pro Max stand-in seems to have done just that, with Unbox Therapy's Lewis Hilsenteger calling it "the closest and best looking next-generation iPhone." This gives us a better idea of what the iPhone 13 Pro Max will look like when Apple unveils its 6.7-inch model this fall, along with three other iPhone 13 versions.

For some time now, rumors have been circulating that Apple will shrink the notch on the iPhone 13, not just on the Pro version, but on all four of the upcoming iPhone 13 models. This iPhone 13 Pro Max dummy unit suggests that this is definitely true.

In the video, Hirszentegger pulls out a caliper and measures the notches on both the dummy unit and the iPhone 12 Pro. The current notch width is 34.62 mm, but the iPhone 13 model has a notch width of 26.31 mm, which is 25% smaller; the iPhone 12 Pro has a notch width of 26.31 mm, which is 25% smaller than the current notch width of 34.62 mm. This does not lead to a significant difference in available screen space, but it does make the iPhone 13 Pro Max's top menu feel less cramped.

How is Apple making room for a smaller notch in this year's phones? Rumors suggest that Apple has come up with a way to make the sensor used for Face ID more compact. Since the sensor is primarily located behind the notch, that leaves more screen real estate for it. However, as the dummy unit suggests, there is another factor at play here.

In this new version, the iPhone 13 Pro Max earphone speaker has been moved. On the current iPhone, this speaker is located right in the middle of the notch; a look at the body of the iPhone 13 Pro Max reveals that the speaker is located more in the upper bezel of the phone, with the notch directly below it.

Rumors suggest that the iPhone 13 Pro model will have changes to the rear camera. The types of lenses will likely remain the same, with an ultrawide lens, a telephoto lens, and a LiDAR sensor added to the main camera, but the ultrawide shooter may be improved.

Specifically, the aperture of the ultra-wide lens will be increased from f/2.4 to f/1.8 on the iPhone 12 Pro model, and we have heard reports that Apple will use a six-element ultra-wide lens instead of the current five-element lens. Ideally, this would allow more light to be captured while allowing a shallower depth of field.

In the iPhone 13 Pro Max video, this would mean a significantly larger lens on the rear camera module. This is also to accommodate the sensor-shift optical image stabilization of the ultra-wide lens.

The buttons on the iPhone 13 Pro Max dummy unit are in the same order as on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The mute switch, volume rocker, and SIM card slot are on one side, and the power button is on the other. There is also a Lightning port on the bottom, so if Apple were to release a portless model as some have rumored, it would not be this version of the iPhone 13. (Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already suggested that a portless iPhone 13 will not happen, and this video would reinforce that idea.)

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is about the same height and width as the previous model. If there is any change between models, it is that the new iPhone appears to be slightly thicker than the previous model. Also, the iPhone 12's straight edges are back.

Since this video features a non-working unit, we can't really use it to verify other iPhone 13 rumors floating around. One such rumor claims that Touch ID will return embedded under the display or in the iPhone 13's power button. (There is no indication of this on this dummy model.)

The major iPhone 13 rumor assumes that the Pro model is getting a fast refresh display that dynamically adjusts refresh rate based on your activity - a feature currently available on the Galaxy S21 family . This is a feature currently available on the Galaxy S21 series.

After the iPhone 12 began launching in October and November of last year, the iPhone 13 is expected to return to a more traditional September launch date. How well this leaked dummy compares to the final iPhone 13 Pro Max will be known then.
