Pre-orders for the iMac 2021 opened today (April 30). But if you have your heart set on a particular color of Apple's latest all-in-one, it may affect the way you purchase your new computer.

Apple posted a notice this weekend explaining how and where to pre-order the iMac 2021, iPad Pro, and Apple TV 4K. However, the details regarding iMac pre-orders also include information on which colors will be available at Apple Stores and which colors must be ordered online.

Apple's pre-order notes, first spotted by 512Pixels, indicate that only green, pink, blue, and silver iMacs will be available at Apple retail stores. These are four of the seven colors Apple is producing for the iMac 2021.

The orange, purple, and yellow iMacs can only be ordered through Apple's website. In fact, all seven colors can be ordered online.

There is no explanation, at least initially, as to why Apple is limiting the colors available for purchase in physical stores. When any company launches a new product, it takes time to build up inventory, and Apple's move may be reflected in the launch of the iMac 2021. The Coronavirus pandemic has also led to production delays across the tech industry, and ask anyone who is about to buy a PS5, but it is possible that some iMac models may not be in as plentiful supply as others in the early stages of the iMac rollout.

Whatever the cause, we can only speculate at this point, but it is important to know which iMac colors will be available at which retailers so you can plan your orders accordingly.

The iMac 2021 has more than just color choices. The latest version of Apple's all-in-one desktop is the first to feature the company's M1 processor. In addition, it has a new camera system, improved audio, and an all-new look from previous iMacs.

Pre-orders will open today, but the iMac 2021 will not ship until late May. Leaked information suggests that the iMac 2021 will ship on May 21, along with the iPad Pro and Apple TV 4K.

Meanwhile, two other devices announced at last week's Spring Loaded event went on sale as Apple began taking pre-orders for these products. The purple versions of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are now in stores, as is the AirTag key finder that Apple announced.
