Suicide Squad cast, Trailer, Release Date, Harley Quinn and everything we know

"Suicide Squad" puts that "Suicide Squad" front and center for a very specific reason. To that end, DC Entertainment has tapped one of the best minds in comic book filmmaking today: James Gunn. And he's already bringing his unique flair to the film, as we saw in the first "Suicide Squad" trailer. Additionally, Margot Robbie recently elaborated on the changes made to her character, Harley Quinn.

Gunn's "Suicide Squad" is a reboot of sorts, a sequel of sorts, with some of the same cast members from the 2016 film carrying over to the new film (including Robbie, Viola Davis, and Joel Kinnaman). However, new faces like Idris Elba and Sylvester Stallone have also been added.

Here's everything we know about "Suicide Squad," including the cast and release date.

"Suicide Squad" will be released (and wreak havoc) on August 6, 2021.

But as is true of most comic book movies, you can't bet on the release date, as COVID-19 regulations are still affecting movie theaters.

In late March, DC released the first red-band trailer for Suicide Squad, and it was as twisted and bizarre as fans had hoped.

The trailer begins with the squad arguing about saving Harley. Of course, it turns out that they don't have to save her. She is not a damsel in distress!

Leading the cast are, of course, Margot Robbie and Viola Davis, who return as Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller, respectively. Joel Kinnaman also returns as Rick Flagg.

Idris Elba is super excited to play Blood Sport in the comic book movie. Other highlights include Nathan Fillion, Michael Rooker, Peter Capaldi, and Steve Agee.

Then the cast of "Suicide Squad" gets bonkers in every sense of the word: 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena plays the Peacemaker, who is, in Cena's words, "a nasty Captain America." And what fresh laughs will Pete Davidson bring to the role of Blackguard?

In addition, "Suicide Squad" will feature Taika Waititi.

It's also where you can see Mr. Cena in some truly hilarious outfits.

Harley Quinn, who played the lead role in her own movie last year, will once again appear in Squad (although, as seen in the trailer above, she can rescue herself.)

Robbie recently explained to Total Film how Harley Quinn has changed since the 2016 film, especially with Gunn at the helm." It's always interesting to explore what traits different directors are drawn to from the character. 'The common denominator is the original story, and I've always built my characters on that. And she evolves in different ways under the direction of different people."

While Harley was definitely the star of "Birds of Prey," she will play a more supporting role in "Suicide Squad."

The actress said, "One of the first things I said to James was that I think Harley is a catalyst for chaos. She's not necessarily the center of the story, and if a plot point rests on the shoulders of another character and she can be the one to erupt into a series of events, I think that would be great. I felt, reading the script, that he agreed."
