T-Mobile WiFi calls were just killed for these phones

The first version of Wi-Fi Calling, which debuted six years ago, may have been revolutionary. These days, however, the feature has become rather archaic, especially with the availability of Wi-Fi Calling 2.0. Therefore, it is not surprising that T-Mobile will end support for Wi-Fi Calling 1.0 next month.

T-Mobile announced the decision on its website, detailing its plans to end support for Wi-Fi Calling 1.0 after May 31. The move will not affect phones that support Wi-Fi Calling 2.0 and will not interfere with the ability to access data over Wi-Fi. However, handsets that only support the 1.0 version of Wi-Fi Calling will no longer be able to use this feature.

The good news is that the list of affected handsets is fairly narrow, with most featuring fairly old handsets; according to T-Mobile, the models affected by the end of Wi-Fi Calling 1.0 support are:

If you still have them and want to continue to use Wi-Fi Calling, you will have to upgrade. (You'll still be able to make phone calls, texts and access the Internet on your handset.) Fortunately, there are plenty of upgrade options. Whether you're looking for the best 5G phone with the latest cellular connectivity or a savings-minded shopper looking for the best budget phone, there are plenty of upgrade options.

Wi-Fi Calling allows you to make phone calls over a Wi-Fi connection; if you have a cell phone that will be inaccessible when Wi-Fi Calling 1.0 ends, seriously consider upgrading your cell phone.
