Samsung Galaxy S21 just got a big upgrade — here's everything new

If you have purchased a Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, or S21 Ultra, there is a new update available. The update offers several important new features, most notably camera enhancements.

European users are likely to get it first; Gizchina has screenshots of the update's changelog so you can see what Samsung is doing with this update. Even though there is still a bit of time before the end of April, you can see that the May security patch is in the works.

Of course, the bulk of this 1.15 GB has to do with camera performance enhancements. Since the Galaxy S21's camera is already very good, it is not clear what exactly will change in the camera. If anything, we'd like to see the colors less overly saturated and the apps run a bit faster.

The update also includes improvements to Samsung's wireless sharing system, Quick Share. You can bounce files between your Galaxy/Samsung devices with Quick Share, and this update will hopefully make the process quicker.

This update is likely to be rolled out via OTA (Over-the-Air) in Europe first. However, you may be able to trigger the update on your Galaxy S21 yourself. Simply head to Settings, then go down to Software Update. From there, select Download and Install.

Your phone will ping Samsung's servers and you may be provided with an update to your device. But that's not a guarantee, so if the updated software doesn't deliver the update to you right away, don't be disappointed.

It is interesting that this update is as large as 1.15 GB, as such updates are usually provided in a few hundred MB (unless it is a platform update). Given this size, the camera enhancements must be significant. Samsung has been tight-lipped about this, so we will have to wait and see next month.
