Forget Google Pixel5a: Moto G20 packs 5,000mAh Battery, 90Hz Display at cheap price

Motorola has announced its latest budget smartphone for the European market, the Moto G20. The phone is not a head-to-head competitor to the Google Pixel 5a, but its huge battery, smooth refresh rate, and low price may make shoppers reconsider paying more for a mid-range smartphone.

Priced at €149 (about $180), the Moto G20 is available in Breeze Blue or Flamingo Pink in select European markets. The design itself is generic, but Motorola offers so many phones at this low price. [For starters, the display is a 6.5-inch LED panel with a refresh rate of 90 Hz; the G20 is powered by an octa-core Unisoc T700 SoC with 4 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of storage. It also has a mircoSD slot, making it inexpensive and easy to expand the available storage.

On the back is a quad-core camera: a 48MP camera is the main shooter, with an 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth camera completing the setup. On the front of the G20 is a 13MP selfie shooter with a triangular cutout down over the display; for a phone costing less than $200, it's a very good-selling camera.

The real highlight, however, is the 5,000mAh battery. It's larger than the battery in the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Motorola says it can last two full days, although the 10W charging system isn't super fast.

Wi-Fi5 and Bluetooth 5.0 support, a rear fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Andriod 11 are preinstalled.

While there is no denying that the G20 is not on par with the flagships on the market, it is not going to compete directly with Apple or Samsung; the Moto G20 looks like a pretty nifty device at an attractive price point to compete for a spot on our best budget smartphone list.

Motorola has said that the phone will first roll out in some European countries, and then appear in other regions within a few weeks.
