Galaxy A22 5G Leak Reveals Samsung's Cheapest 5G Phone Yet

Samsung's Galaxy A22 5G may not be a powerful phone, but it promises to offer what you need for not much more money.

Two different leaks from SamMobile and Twitter leaker OnLeaks have revealed the phone's exterior design and some of its specs. And it appears that Samsung will offer its cheapest 5G phone to date.

Previous leaks indicate that the phone will be priced under $200, which is incredibly cheap for a 5G-enabled phone. Samsung's Galaxy A32 5G is the cheapest the company currently offers, but its price is $279.

Inside the A22 is a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, accompanied by 6GB RAM, and Geekbench 5 results are not particularly impressive, with a single-core score of 562 and a multi-core score of 1,755, but that is to be expected at this price.

Looking at the exterior, the A22 has an Infinity-V display (water drop notch in normal English), a step back from the punch-hole display used by the A21; based on the A32, this is probably a 6.5-inch HD display, preferably with a 90 Hz refresh rate

. Meanwhile, the camera bump on the back is square, rather than Samsung's usual rectangular, and has three sensors. We can assume that these are the same 48MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP depth sensors found on the Galaxy A42 5G, another newer, less expensive member of Samsung's Galaxy A series.

Some of the other key features are welcome news: the A22 uses a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an old-fashioned but still effective way to unlock. It also includes a headphone jack for non-wireless audio devices, presumably working with Android 11 via Samsung's One UI 3.0.

Last year's Samsung Galaxy A21s had a 5,000mAh battery, which is large for any phone, let alone a budget device. Neither source mentions the size of the battery, so let's hope this huge power cell is included in the new version.

There aren't many phones in this price range, but we're big fans of the phones that do exist. This includes Motorola's Moto G Power (2021) and Moto G Stylus, which offer many similar features to the Galaxy A22; whether the A22 deserves to be on the list of best budget phones will need to be tested well after the official launch event.
