Google has distributed the third developer preview of Android 12 with a number of exciting new features based on the February update.

With the latest release, Google has launched a number of updates that allow developers to squeeze more features out of their smartphone cameras.

The third Developer Preview expands the suite of options available to developers when designing haptic feedback in their apps.

In a full blog post, Google said the new update will allow developers to provide better feedback options for UI events, games, and productivity. Haptic feedback is an important part of a smooth user experience and allows developers to shape how they communicate with users through touch.

According to the XDA Developers report, one such new effect included in the third developer build of Android 12 is called "rotics" and takes advantage of "the wider frequency bandwidth of modern actuators."

Simply put, this means that game developers can manipulate the different controller actuators (the parts of the controller that convert signals into mechanical movement) individually and synchronize them to provide a rich tactile effect for the person operating the game.

Currently, the API is optimized for the Pixel 4, and Google is working with other companies to support more devices.

Notable improvements have also been made to camera support, including an ultra-high resolution camera sensor. This allows third-party apps to effectively take advantage of these powerful sensors through the new platform APIs that arrived in the third developer preview.

Call notifications have also been improved in the new Developer Preview. Alerts are now placed more clearly at the top of the screen, making it easier to see and receive notifications.

Other improvements mean better battery performance. Namely, the way alarms are managed; Google mentions inaccurate alarms such as Doze and the App Standby feature, which Android manages to "minimize sleep wake and battery impact."

These alarms are more energy efficient than the battery-draining alarms called accurate alarms. Accurate alarms are used in situations where more precise time keeping is needed, such as alarm clocks and timers.

Android 12 includes several changes to give users more control over these features, allowing them to better manage battery performance.
