OnePlus phones have new gaming peripherals, but there's a catch

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took to Twitter to share an image of the company's new attachable gaming trigger, which can be used on devices other than OnePlus smartphones. However, it may be difficult to be the first to purchase one of these.

The new shoulder button is currently available for purchase online through the OnePlus website, but is currently only available in India. The trigger costs Rs. 1,099 (about $15), not bad for a pair of shoulder buttons that pair with a cell phone to turn it into a gaming hub.

First reported by Android Headlines and SlashGear, who spotted the item during the official launch of the OnePlus 9 last month, the China-based company has not confirmed an international release nor commented on international pricing and availability .

The clip-on accessory looks a bit odd, but is simple to use. Given that the device thickness does not exceed 11.5 mm, it adds two shoulder buttons that can be attached separately to both iOS and Android devices. We love accessories that can be easily removed. This means we can quickly switch between the phone's normal functions and then quickly return to game mode with the trigger in tow.

Lau describes the trigger as "solid, responsive, and a pleasant click," which should whet the appetite of gamers who demand responsiveness in their controls for games like Call of Duty or PUBG's Battle Royale Marathon.

Not only that, but the trigger fits seamlessly, with a conductive silicone pad seemingly resting on the side of the device's screen. The product page states that the trigger is interchangeable and can be secured to the phone in a way that ensures optimal comfort for the user. Since each user's hands are different, there is no universal approach.

When using gaming triggers, the games played must allow detailed customization of the touch controls on the screen. Touch active zones must be free to move in response to the placement of the shoulder buttons on the smartphone.

And while gaming triggers don't offer the dexterous fun of, say, an Asus ROG Phone 5 or a Nubia RedMagic 6, you'll save a few hundred bucks to get your phone closer to these gaming-specific devices. 15 bucks is not bad Not - if you can get your hands on a set, however.
