Lego Star Wars R2-D2 will help you celebrate 5/4 in style

Lego likes to celebrate Star Wars Day on May 4 with great fanfare, and this year is no exception. This year, Lego is releasing an all-new set featuring R2-D2.

But it's not just R2-D2. Star Wars fans will know that this intrepid droid has a lot of gadgets hidden under his shell.

The 2,314-piece R2-D2 is actually a remake of the 2,127 model that was first released in May 2021 and discontinued at the end of 2014. It has been rumored and teased for quite some time, and now Lego has officially announced it.

But this set is more than just a display droid. LEGO R2 also comes with moving parts. He has extendable mid-legs and a rotating head, plus a variety of pop-up gadgets such as a periscope, stun gun, and grappling claws.

Those hoping to recreate one of the classic scenes from "Return of the Jedi" will also enjoy the fact that R2 has a miniature version of Luke's green lightsaber hidden in his head. However, it does not appear to breathe fire, so one must use one's imagination there.

Big R2 also comes with a minifig scale counterpart, a special display stand with information about everyone's favorite blue droid, and a special brick commemorating Lucasfilm's 50th anniversary. Without Lucasfilm, there would be no Star Wars.

Those who already have space to display LEGO R2 should note that he is 12.5 inches tall, 7.5 inches wide, and 6 inches deep; R2-D2 will be available at LEGO stores and on LEGO's website beginning May 1. The price is $199.99 / 179.99 pounds.
