One of the worst things about Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3foldables can be fixed

Samsung's next Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 may get a very important feature: IP water and dust resistance.

According to SamMobile sources, Samsung's next foldable phones will be the first to offer IP waterproof and dustproof standards. Smartphones with hinges like Samsung's have been prone to malfunctioning in the past due to debris getting into them.

Unfortunately, we don't know what the IP rating will be. However, the fact that Samsung advertises this fact suggests that the Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 should offer some protection against both dust and liquids.

After all, dust and debris led to the demise of the first Samsung Galaxy Fold. Not only did it lead to the recall of the review unit, but Samsung had to delay the launch of the phone for several months. Samsung's folding mechanism made it surprisingly easy for dust and debris to get inside the phone.

Samsung has done much to ensure that this problem no longer occurs in future folding phones, and we may be seeing the results. The only question is whether the phones will be IP5X or IP6X rated.

The difference is that IP6X means that the device is completely sealed against dust and other debris, whereas IP5X allows some particles to pass inside, though not enough to interfere with daily function.

Of course, water resistance is also an important feature for most people. Invariably, we have experienced an accident with our cell phones, and the IP waterproof rating gives us peace of mind. Even if water damage is not covered by the warranty.

This is another way Samsung is making its foldable phones more durable. Rumor has it that the phone will feature an ultra-strong "Armor Frame," which promises to be stronger and lighter than the Z Fold 2's frame. Add to this an IP rating, and it looks like it will be a very sturdy foldable.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are rumored to launch this July; the Z Fold 3 is also said to support Samsung's S Pen and have a slightly smaller battery than the Z Fold 2. However, leaks and chatter so far have divided opinion on the screen size, with some claiming that the outer display will be similar in size to the Z Fold 2, while others claim that it will be significantly smaller.

Not much is known about the Z Flip 3 beyond that Samsung will reportedly omit the number 2 so that both foldable devices will have the same number. Naturally, it will maintain the same clamshell design as the previous Z Flip.
