Fitbit smartwatches is getting this stress-free upgrade in the fight against the apple Watch

The constant hustle and bustle of modern life can be quite stressful, and Fitbit aims to provide a solution to this problem with its latest addition to its smartwatch series: stress tracking.

At a press event for the company's latest fitness wearable, the Fitbit Luxe, it was announced that the stress management feature, which first debuted on last year's Fitbit Sense, will now be available on the current Fitbit series of smartwatches and fitness bands.

The models that will receive the feature are the Versa 3, Versa 2, Luxe, Charge 4, and Inspire 2; older Fitbit models that no longer receive updates will not include the stress management feature.

The feature itself is located within the Fitbit dashboard and tracks heart rate variability, exercise patterns, and sleep data to generate a single stress score; if you are a registered Fitbit Premium user, you can see a detailed breakdown of your score, but if you are not a Premium user, your daily score is only displayed.

You can also add your own feedback to alert Fitbit that you are having a particularly stressful day. However, since the app doesn't actually use this information to train its stress score algorithm, it's not entirely clear what value there is in basically telling the smartwatch that you're having a bad day.

Dr. Samy Abdel-Ghaffar, a scientist with Fitbit's Stress Management System, told Wareable: "Our Stress Management Score is an important health indicator that affects your physical and mental health, your body's ability to handle stress. It is designed to help you understand...

"A high score means you are showing fewer signs of physical stress, so you may consider taking on a new project or exercising; conversely, if your score is low, you may want to rest yourself by sleeping earlier or meditating."

The idea is that over time you can understand how your daily routine affects your stress level and tweak it accordingly if certain aspects are causing you unwelcome anxiety.

Fitbit is now focusing on creating more relaxation content and anti-stress features, and the company recently partnered with Deepak Chopra to create mindful content for Fitbit Premium subscribers.

Stress monitoring and management is nothing new in smartwatches, but the Apple Watch 6 (our top pick for best smartwatch) and Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 support such features, which can be quite expensive Fitbit smartwatches are often more affordable, and this additional feature makes them a bit more desirable.
