The new iMac concept was just teased before launch — and I really hope it's accurate

If the iMac 2021 were to be unveiled today, it would be great if it looked like this previewed design.

With the current model looking more than six years old, it's about time Apple gave its desktop computer a major makeover. And what is shown in these still images and source video made by ConceptsiPhone and Khahn Design could be exactly what the iMac needs.

The two creators are sad that their main inspiration is the iPad Air and Pro Display XDR, which comes across very clearly.

The rounded edges of the thin display look a lot like the iPad Air and iPad Pro. And the concept shares the same color options as the iPad Air, including space gray, silver, rose gold, green, and sky blue.

The lack of curves, the stand, and some of the details on the back are reminiscent of the Pro Display XDR. Current iMacs already share the Pro Display's nanotextured glass and True Tone coloring, so we expect to see further advances in the new iMac.

We would like to see Apple introduce the 5K resolution display of the 27" iMac on the smaller 21.5" model. Or we'd like to see the long-rumored mini-LED display added to both versions.

Inside this concept iMac is a new Apple Silicon chip, following the MacBook Air M1 and MacBook Pro M1. ConceptsiPhone and Khahn Design have confirmed that the silicon in these iMacs will be mentioned to be the Apple M1 chip and M1X, the latter rumored to be an evolution of the M1 designed for Apple's best Mac devices.

A handful of new products will be announced later today at Apple's spring event. The new iMac was among the devices rumored to make an appearance. However, despite recent rumors that the event's logo colors suggest the old iMac color range, it remains a less certain bet than AirTags or the new iPad Pro.

The next event at which the new iMac could make an appearance is WWDC 2021 in June, although Apple could hold a separate presentation focused on Mac products. However, Apple could also hold a separate launch dedicated to Mac products. iMacs could be announced at any time, and we look forward to seeing how the refreshed iMac performs compared to other best all-in-one computers.
