Samsung Galaxy Z-Fold 3 gets lower viewing camera - but its rivals

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3 will reportedly have an under-display camera, but this cool new technology may not be as new as we first thought. [but this cool new technology may not be as novel as we first thought. They describe the second half of this year as "when the Under Display Camera will officially debut." Many of Android's top manufacturers, other than Samsung, are apparently planning to launch phones with this feature.

Samsung announced earlier this year that it is working on UPC (under panel camera) technology for laptops; Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo have all announced concepts and patents for under display cameras in cell phones.

Xiaomi's Mi Mix 4, one of the phones named in the Ice Universe tweet, would be particularly interesting. The company already produces excellent flagship phones like the Xiaomi Mi 11 and has just announced its first folding phone with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4. Of the companies preparing to introduce under-display cameras, Xiaomi seems to be Samsung's most dangerous competitor.

ZTE also deserves attention. The first example of an under-display camera was the ZTE Axon 20 5G. Its hardware was very impressive, but the image quality produced by the camera was less so. Therefore, one would hope that the next generation of this phone will feature significant upgrades compared to the Axon 20.

The foldable phone is an impressive device, but it has yet to make one of our Best Android Phones list. This is because they are not as practical as standard smartphones for many reasons, including price, hardware quality, and durability. The under-display camera is probably not a cure-all for this problem, but it is a sign that this new form factor will continue to evolve. Furthermore, as this technology becomes more affordable and sophisticated, we will likely see such cameras in more common cell phones in the near future.

Samsung has a firm grip on the foldable phone market with its third-generation Z Fold and second-generation Galaxy Z Flip. However, potential rivals like the rumored iPhone Flip and Google Pixel Fold are on the horizon. Moreover, if existing foldable handsets like the Mi Mix Fold and Huawei Mate X2, which are currently banned for sale in the US, are allowed to be sold, there would theoretically be even more competitors to push future foldable handsets to new heights.
