Forget Oculus Quest3 - Oculus Quest Pro is the first

Oculus Quest 2 was a huge success for Facebook, but don't expect a follow-up anytime soon. In fact, it's more likely that Oculus Quest Pro will come out before Oculus Quest 3 does

, as we heard from Oculus CTO John Carmack and VP Andrew Bosworth in a Twitter Q&A last week (via Upload VR). I heard about this. Subsequent headsets are also being discussed, but the Oculus Quest 2 is here "for a while."

"There is no Quest 3, only Quest 2," Bosworth said during the discussion." But I hinted about Quest Pro at the AMA earlier this year." Because we have a lot of new features in development that we want to bring to the headset, the kinds of new features that people theorize they want to introduce, and that's still a little ways off."

Bosworth confirmed that the hypothetical Oculus Quest Pro headset will not appear this year. He said the Quest 2 is "our best bet as the most accessible way to get into VR" and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

We have to agree: the Oculus Quest 2 tops the list of best VR headsets thanks to its all-in-one design. But it also offers optional PC and full room functionality, a vast array of compatible games, and an affordable price of $299.

Some VR fans may be upset to hear that the Oculus Quest Pro won't be available soon, but that's not a bad thing. For one thing, it means that the headset you have will be supported for a while and you won't be forced to upgrade.

Furthermore, for those who are on the fence about buying the Quest 2, they can rest assured that they won't be investing $300 in a headset right before a new headset comes out.

As Oculus has already shown, the company is still willing to invest in older products: the Oculus Quest 2 just got its first proper exclusive in the form of the Resident Evil 4 VR remake, compatible with the first generation Oculus Quest There are still plenty of new games out there.

Indeed, Carmack noted that "there is still a significant market for Quest 1 users, if developers are going to do anything to make money." Bosworth added that there is still incentive for developers to support the original Quest and that doing so is not that difficult.

So while Oculus hopes to allow developers with "really high-end apps" to target Quest 2 exclusively, they still recommend supporting both headsets.

So while an upgraded model may not appear for some time, there is no shortage of ways to use the Oculus Quest 2 and the original Oculus Quest.
