This is the Falcon & Winter Soldier spinoff we need now

"The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" shows that there are traces of Wakanda throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even casual fans know that Captain America's shield is made of vibranium. And at the end of Episode 3, Bucky picks up some Kimoyo beads, which foreshadow what is to come.

Sure enough, a well-known member of the Black Panther's private security force, the Dora Milaje, made her presence known. From the time Ayo showed up until the time her team dismantled - and fired - Bucky and John Walker, one thing was clear: a Dora Milaje spin-off was needed.

In this series, where Baron Jimmo dances and Madripur is the mutant cipher, Dora Milaje stands out as a scene-stealer in its own right.

Ayo's first appearance opens Episode 4 by reminding us of Wakanda's role in freeing Bucky from the Winter Soldier program. This fact underscores Ayo's frustration as she wonders how Bucky could have freed Jimo after removing his "rotten fur" programming. She leaves with Kimoyo's beads and a warning that she has "eight hours" before Dora Milaje defeats Zero.

Ayo and the other bodyguards show up later in the episode, in between the action of the supposed confrontation between Sam Wilson/Falcon and John Walker (the new Captain America). The result was a moment of truth for Walker as he overpowered Bucky.

The beating led Walker to take the super-soldier serum, a development that brought out his violent side by the end of the episode. For his part, Bucky learned that Wakanda had been preparing a fail-safe for the Winter Soldier all along.

So how would a Dora Milaje spin-off series play out? First and foremost, a Wakanda-based spin-off series is already planned for Disney Plus. The series is part of a TV deal that "Black Panther" director Ryan Coogler has signed with Disney and will likely air after the "Black Panther" sequel, scheduled for release in July 2022. Indeed, the Kingdom of Wakanda is more expansive than the Royal Guard, but Dora Milaje would be mentioned in such a series.

Various Dora Milaje team-ups have occurred in the comics, with Ayo and the World of Wakanda appearing in 2017's Black Panther: World of Wakanda, which featured Ayo and Aneka, members and lovers of the Dora Milaje. Despite low sales, the story was compelling and introduced both Ayo and Aneka not as background figures, but as important characters whose ideas should be explored.

All things considered, there is a way to present a Dora Milaje spin-off series that is not only fashionable and progressive, but also functional in continuing the "Black Panther" storyline. It goes without saying that the passing of Chadwick Boseman left a crack in the Black Panther universe. It would be an excellent opportunity to see Dora Milaje not only as the king's bodyguard, but also as the nation's bodyguard. Also, what if the role of the Panther had been played by a woman like Suri instead of a man?

At the very least, the series could feature a nation in peril and outstanding characters like Okoye and Ayo. Tribal history is certainly worth exploring, not only for military training but also for the tradition of gathering as queens for unmarried kings (or queens), suggesting intra-class rivalries. Of course, there is also the option that the newborn Panther considers its members to be warrior daughters rather than wives in training. One thing is certain: when it comes to possibilities, Dora Milaje is more than a bunch of pointy sticks.

Until then, we'll just have to enjoy moments like Wakanda snatching Cap's shield from the walkers. Or we can enjoy the unlimited jurisdiction of Dora Milaje, whether in Wakanda, Latvia, or Sokovia. One thing is certain: every scene in which Dora Milaje appears is identical to Marvel's current cinematic streak. It simply cannot be missed.
