All—Electric Ferrari confirmed - here it is when it comes

Ferrari has revealed that it is building its first fully electric car.

The yet-to-be-named EV is expected to be launched in 2025, according to Ferrari Chairman and interim CEO John Elkann, who revealed the news at yesterday's annual shareholders meeting. That may sound far-fetched, but the famed Italian automaker had previously refused to give a firm date, only stating that it would not be ready until "after 2025."

The idea of a Ferrari without a screaming V8 or V12 engine may be sacrilege to some, but even prancing horses are not immune to change: in 2019, the Italian automaker will unveil a plug-in hybrid Ferrari SF90 Stradale, and late last year also introduced an open-top Spyder version. And of course, hybrid Ferraris have been competing (and sometimes winning) in Formula 1 for several years now.

However, shortly after the Stradale's launch, then-CEO Louis Camilleri said that the company's first fully electric model would be delayed until after 2025 because battery technology was not advanced enough.

That now appears to have changed, and Elkann said yesterday, "We are very excited about Ferrari's first all-electric model, which we plan to present in 2025. We continue to execute our electrification strategy in a very disciplined way."

We know absolutely nothing about Ferrari's EV beyond the fact that it will eventually exist. Whether it will be a production road car or an exotic sports monster like the F40 remains to be seen.

But it will be worth the wait, at least according to Elkann: "It will certainly be the kind of car that Maranello's engineers and designers can only dream of, the kind of landmark they can imagine in Ferrari's history.

Ferrari fans will no doubt rejoice to hear that--even if they don't have to wait another four years to actually get behind the wheel. Ferrari fans will no doubt rejoice to hear it.
