This new Google Search shortcut will save you time — you can try it now

Thanks to the introduction of a new keyboard shortcut, searching Google on the desktop is now a little easier. It is not too difficult to learn this shortcut.

If you have ever found yourself at the bottom of a Google search page and have to go back to the search bar, this is the tip for you. Instead of using the mouse cursor as usual, just press the '/' key and Google will take you right there.

It's really easy; just press the '/' key anywhere on the Google search page and the search bar will appear. Then you can refine your current search or start over.

According to 9to5Google, Google informs users of this shortcut in a short pop-up in the lower left corner of the screen. We checked this popup and confirmed that the shortcut works correctly.

For most people, this will only save a few seconds, but that savings will increase over time. It will also make Google search more accessible for those who cannot or will not navigate with a mouse.

Google has long supported using the Tab key to navigate without a mouse, but the move takes time. By allowing users to use the / key to quickly return to the search bar, Google is saving keyboard users a great deal of time in finding what they need.

So let's get started and try this new shortcut. Even those who normally use a mouse may be surprised at how convenient it is. Note, however, that this is a desktop-only feature. Mobile users will still need to scroll back to the top of the screen.
