We have been hearing rumors about the Windows 10 Sun Valley update and its apparent redesign of the OS for some time. Microsoft itself had accidentally released some mock-up designs last year. And now we have what appear to be real screenshots of the new Windows 10 design in action.

The image, discovered by Windows Latest and tweeted by an unnamed Microsoft employee, shows the Windows Terminal app with rounded corners. This is one of the UI improvements suggested in earlier leaks.

While Windows Terminal is hardly the most eye-catching of Windows apps, this screenshot shows how the relatively small step of rounding the corners of the window can make the entire screen look cleaner and softer.

It also confirms that the rounded edges previously seen in Microsoft's mockups (like the Wi-Fi settings window design below) will remain, at least in the version used by Windows employees.

These mockups also show a somewhat minimalist design with a stronger element of translucent effects. These are less visible in the Windows Terminal screenshot, but if this Windows 10 redesign is true to the mockups, we can probably expect similar changes in the finished Sun Valley update.

Microsoft recently advertised for a senior software engineer to help "visually revamp the Windows experience," according to a job posting.

In addition to the interface updates, Microsoft is also doing some spring cleaning of lesser-used Windows 10 apps: 3D Viewer and Paint 3D were recently removed from the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build, Sun Valley or regular Windows 10 updates, paving the way for the removal of unloved software.
