Stunning iPhone13 concept shows off companion VR headset

The iPhone 13 won't arrive until the fall, and the rumored Apple VR and mixed reality headset may not appear until 2022. But that hasn't stopped one enterprising designer from imagining how the two products might work together.

Thanks to ConceptsiPhone's newly released renderings, we have an idea of the look and feel we can expect from the headset, and ConceptsiPhone's renderings are attractive, with a rounded, lightweight design. This approach makes sense, as any headset should be something people are comfortable wearing when using it with the iPhone.

The head strap on the Apple headset in this concept video appears to be quite versatile and features what appears to be a soft interior to hold the headset securely to the face. Compared to most VR headsets on the market today, this theoretical Apple version looks truly luxurious.

As for the phone featured in the video (named the iPhone 13 VR by ConceptsiPhone), it closely resembles the current iPhone design with one notable exception. The rear camera array occupies the entire upper third of the phone. Along with Apple's multiple rear lenses and sensors, there is a secondary screen. Presumably this is for notifications and an augmented AR viewfinder for taking pictures.

Since nothing like this has been rumored for the iPhone 13, we assume this is the design ConceptsiPhone envisions for future Apple devices.

And that's just fine. Recent leaks about Apple's VR and mixed reality headset predict a mid-2022 launch. In other words, by the time this headset accessory appears, we could be two iPhones away.

Apple's mixed reality headset will focus primarily on virtual reality, but rumors suggest that the device will also include optical see-through capabilities for augmented reality. The headset would complement the iPhone with an external camera and sensors, rather than inserting the phone into the headset like earlier VR headsets.

Rumor has it that Apple's mixed reality headset will hit the market before Apple Glasses, AR-powered eyewear reportedly under development at Apple.
