VW teases electric ID.6SUV - and it's a sophisticated 7-seat beast

The next electric car could be Volkswagen's all-electric SUV. Volkswagen has released teaser shots of its sleek looking ID.6.

The ID.6 electric SUV, which will make its debut at the Shanghai Motor Show on April 21, will come in two models, the ID.6 X and ID.6 Cross. VW has not revealed specs for the upcoming SUV, but it will use the same MEB platform as the ID.4 EV. 4 It will use the same MEB platform as the EV, with three rows of seats and seating for up to seven passengers.

As first reported by Autoblog, profile shots show a fairly classic SUV shape with a sweeping roof and curvy lines, somewhat similar to that of the ID.4 The Roomzz concept was unveiled at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show.

However, the bunch of flashy light bars that seem to make up the car's headlights do not appear to have been created from the concept stage. Rather, the ID.6 uses more traditional VW headlights, but with the VW logo lit and what would appear to be several light strips running from the front lights across the nose.

Autoblog noted that documents leaked by Chinese regulators suggest that the ID6 will use a 201 hp electric motor and the all-wheel drive model will use a system that will kick out 302 hp. In other words, increasing vehicle size without increasing the power of the electric system would provide a slower SUV. However, the ID.6 could be an eclectic vehicle for those who want capacity over performance.

The kicker here is that it remains to be seen if the ID.6 will be sold in the U.S. and U.K. from the Chinese market that it seems to be targeting

Whether it will or not remains to be seen, but the desire for a spacious SUV is never small, so it I wouldn't be surprised to see the ID.6 land in the US.
