With the fate of the Galaxy Note 21 still up in the air, Samsung's next big flagship is likely to be the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is apparently on track for release in the coming months.

According to SamMobile's sources, Samsung is currently working on firmware for the foldable. This firmware is likely to be based on Samsung's latest custom skin for Android 11, One UI 3.5.

Elsewhere, Korean publication The Elec has obtained battery capacity, an important detail for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. According to the site's sources, the fold will have a slightly lower capacity than its predecessor, going from 4,500mAh to 4,380mAh, again split into two cells on either side of the fold.

While a 120mAh reduction (half the total capacity of the 41mm Galaxy Watch 3) should not seriously affect the device's stamina, as it equates to a 3% reduction overall, it is interesting to speculate what compelled the change. For example, it is possible that Samsung took a slight hit to battery capacity to make room for the rumored S Pen to be docked inside the phone, as it has done in the past with the Galaxy Note.

If the rumors are true and Samsung is indeed selling off the Galaxy Note this year, it makes sense for the S Pen to find a more permanent home.

A handful of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 rumors are starting to emerge, but there are plenty of points of contention, with leakers undecided even about the size of the screens involved. We've heard that the external display could range from as small as 4 inches to as large as 6.23 inches, which is quite large. However, it is speculated that the device will use the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and boast at least 256 GB of storage, similar to the previous model, which did not have room for a microSD card slot.

The consensus is that we're looking at a handset that will appear later this year, and The Elec is floating the possibility of a July reveal, along with possibly Samsung's other new foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Neither device is expected to be cheap, and we imagine the price will be at least comparable to the previous model. In other words, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will cost at least $1,399 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will cost $1,799.
