Earlier this year, Samsung teased that it was working on additional foldable smartphone designs, and rumors quickly circulated that a third foldable product would be released this year. However, it looks like that will not be the case after all.

Bad news for fans hoping for a tri-fold device, which has been spotted in multiple patents: according to SamMobile, Samsung plans to release the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 in 2021, with no third mystery foldable in the works. The site also stresses that the same is true for the Galaxy Z Fold Lite.

The report is corroborated by Twitter leaker Chun, who states that they can only find references to the Galaxy Z Flip and the follow-up Galaxy Z Fold 2, which are said to debut later this year.

In January, CFO and President Yoon-Ho Choi said the company is working on "several form factor designs," and coupled with the Galaxy Z Fold Lite rumors, we could be looking at an affordable foldable, or something that fans will reach for their wallet despite the big price tag We were looking forward to seeing something completely new that would make us reach for it. Now, however, it seems that neither of those are available - but that doesn't mean that a new foldable won't appear in the future.

Samsung has reportedly ditched the Galaxy Note 21, and a tipster says the smartphone is no longer needed; between the S Pen-enabled Galaxy S21 Ultra and the shift to foldables, the lineup is redundant. Samsung has not made that clear, assuring fans that it has not yet abandoned the series, but it is not clear if the Galaxy Note is needed anymore. In particular, leaks suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 may support the S Pen.

After a tumultuous 2021 that affected production and product supply worldwide, Samsung may just be getting its ducks in a row before rolling out new smartphones. Hopefully, new products will be available next year.
