Leaks have been circulating this week suggesting that when Apple previews iOS 15 at this summer's WWDC 2021, we will see a redesigned Control Center, which suggests a new form of Touch ID sensor built directly into the iPhone screen. And that has major implications for the iPhone 13, which is scheduled for release this fall.

According to Twitter user Jioriku, who has a history of leaking and contextualizing Apple's internal design efforts, the company has a team working on a multi-factor authentication API that will give developers the option to request identity verification in multiple ways, including via Touch ID and Face ID It has a team working on this.

If true, this would mark a major change in iPhone design. Rather than bringing back the home button, Jioriku claims that Apple aims to incorporate the Touch ID sensor into the glass screen of future phones.

Specifically, Jioriku states that "Touch ID was finally cut in the iPhone 13." However, he adds, "This does not mean that it is a guarantee that it will come ...... It simply means that Apple has approved it," he adds.

If you're more interested in what's on the screen than what's in it, you might be interested to know that Apple is reportedly bringing a redesigned Control Center to iOS 15, influenced by its experience porting Control Center to macOS at Big Sur last year.

While we have yet to see images of the purported redesign of the iOS Control Center, the flat, bold icons laid out in the macOS Control Center will likely translate well to the iPhone's smaller screen.

However, we have seen leaked images of the purported iOS 15 redesign, with icons for Apple services featuring a gradient white background and an inner border painted in an accent color, much like Big Sur's new form of icon design.

Of course, we should expect Apple's team to be working on multiple prototypes and designs on the path to a new iPhone, and we won't know what will make the final cut until the iOS 15 preview at WWDC in June.
