Samsung has just launched the first device to find their stuff in AR-beating Apple AirTags

Apple's AirTags are rumored to be delayed again, but Samsung's advanced product finder will launch next week. The new $39 Galaxy SmartTag Plus, which features both Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Ultra Wide Band (UWB) to help locate lost items of all kinds, will go on sale April 16.

The best feature of all: SmartTag Plus utilizes augmented reality (AR) and uses the live view of your smartphone's camera to lead you to your lost item. This may put SmartTag Plus at the top of the best key finder list.

According to a Samsung press release, SmartTag Plus can be attached to all sorts of items, including key chains, wallets, and backpacks. Then, you can use the SmartThings Find service on your Galaxy phone to locate those items.

Note that in order to use the AR Finder technology, the smartphone must be equipped with UWB. Devices with this technology include the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The AR Finder app uses arrows to guide the user to the lost item through an intuitive interface on the phone.

If the item you are looking for is not nearby, you can locate tagged items on a map. You can also help others find their lost tags and devices via the SmartThings app.

The Galaxy SmartTag Plus has several other tricks up its sleeve. For example, it can be set to turn on lights when you are out and about and click a button on the tag. There are other features that can be programmed.

I look forward to trying out SmartTag Plus. Stay tuned for a detailed review.
