OnePlus9Pro may have a big overheating problem — What you Need to Know

According to multiple reports from users, the OnePlus 9 Pro has an unfortunate habit of getting too hot during use.

OnePlus' newest flagship seems to regularly receive overheating warnings, as detailed in a long thread on the OnePlus Forum support page. The various reports indicate that there is a definite problem and hopefully point the way to a resolution in the near future.

Several users in a thread on the OnePlus forum have stated that the issue appears most consistently when using the camera app. Whether it is video or photos, the exact mode does not seem to matter, and when I try to use the phone's Hasselblad-tuned camera, a warning message pops up after less than five minutes. Others have also received warnings when charging their phones or watching videos, and some have had warnings pop up overnight even though they have not used the phone for hours.

It is unclear if there is actually consistent overheating occurring within the Snapdragon 888 chipset of the 9 Pro or if there is a glitch in the software or internal temperature sensor. Some users report that the phone does not feel warm to the touch after the warning appears, while others claim it feels warm.

To further confuse the issue, other forum posters have said that the phone gets hot in different situations, such as charging, without warning. One would hope that such inconsistent causes indicate that this is not a hardware-level problem, but one that can be easily fixed in software.

This seems to be exactly what OnePlus is thinking as well; when contacted by Android Police, OnePlus said it is aware of the issue and is working on multiple software updates to fix it.

TG tested both OnePlus 9 Pro devices for review and neither produced this warning; the 9 Pro is currently our top pick for the best Android phone, but if this widely reported issue is not fixed soon, we may have to reconsider this ranking. may have to reconsider this ranking.
