The launch of the Microsoft Surface laptop 4 has been tipped for next week - with AMD and Intel chips...

Microsoft's Surface Laptop 4 is one of the best-kept secrets in the computing world right now, but thanks to this latest leak, we have further confirmation that the machine is indeed here and could be coming very soon.

This latest leak comes courtesy of Microsoft's own support page, which features two placeholder lists for the yet-to-be-announced Surface Laptop 4. These were spotted by Twitter user WalkingCat (via The Verge) and clearly indicate that Microsoft's next clamshell laptop is just around the corner.

One of the placeholder pages shows an AMD version of the laptop, while the other shows an Intel model, nicely matching previous leaks that suggested the device would be available with processors from either manufacturer.

The fact that Microsoft is preparing a support page for the laptop would suggest that its release is quite imminent. In fact, WalkingCat speculates that an official announcement could come as early as next week.

There have been a number of leaks related to the Surface Laptop 4 over the past few weeks, ranging from substantive information like the Surface Laptop 4 spec list to smaller additions like the possibility of a new webcam.

The laptop is rumored to launch with either an Intel Tiger Lake CPU or an AMD Ryzen 7 4000 series processor, which is especially disappointing news as we had hoped it might feature the latest AMD Ryzen 5000 series.

This is especially puzzling if Microsoft is going to use a new chip in the Intel model of the Surface Laptop 4 and an older AMD chip in the other. At the very least, it would be a step up from the 3000 series used in the Surface Laptop 3 series released in 2019.

The leaked benchmark listing refers to the chip as a Ryzen 7 "Microsoft Surface Edition," leading to the theory that Microsoft will actually get a custom chip from AMD. In other words, the laptop CPU could actually be somewhere between the 4000 and 5000 series.

According to other spec leaks, we can speculate that the laptop will offer 16 GB of RAM and will have an SSD hard disk drive.

We have also been hoping that Microsoft will redesign the Surface Laptop for this fourth in the series. A narrower bezel, larger trackpad, and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity are a must.

At this point, it seems almost certain that the question is not whether Microsoft will announce the Surface Laptop 4, but when. With so many leaks floating around, an official announcement does not seem too far off.
