The Lenovo Legion2Pro gaming phone is very powerful and requires this built-in fan

Lenovo is not messing around with a new Legion 2 Pro gaming smartphone - a newly leaked snap shows that it has a built-in physical cooling fan. [The successor to the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel first appeared last month in the form of leaked specs, which suggested it had quite a bit of power. Now, photos of the device have emerged ahead of its scheduled launch in China this week.

Lenovo has been relatively slow to enter the smartphone gaming arena, debuting its Legion brand just last year, but the new model is likely to pose a serious challenge to products like the Asus ROG Phone 5.

According to photos of the device shared with AnTuTu, the front of the handset has a traditional smartphone shape, not much like many of the picks on our best smartphones list. [The back of the Lenovo Legion 2 Pro, however, has a colorful module positioned in the center of the phone. There is some question as to whether this module is raised, and the Beebob reports that it sticks out to create a rocking motion when laid on a table, but GMSArena believes it is an optical illusion and that the module in the middle is flat with the rest of the phone's back stating.

In any case, GSMArena claims that it has twin turbo fans, with a liquid cooling chamber in between for heat dissipation.

At first glance, the fan appears to be external, leaving the Legion 2 Pro with open vents and exposure to dust and water. Despite this, it looks pretty cool. One can only hope that some sort of protective seal is included with the fan casing, but Lenovo has yet to confirm anything of this nature.

Other gaming smartphones like the Nubia Red Magic 6 use integrated cooling fans as well, but the Red Magic hides the fan inside and directs hot air out through the system's grille for better protection.

Putting durability to one side, some of the Lenovo Legion 2 Pro's impressive specs have also been leaked via NotebookCheck.net and GSMArena. The device will reportedly feature a 6.92-inch, 144Hz screen, 720Hz touch sampling rate, and a premium Snapdragon 888 chipset. It also has a high-capacity 5,500mAh battery and supports 90W fast charging.

The front-facing camera also appears to offer something a bit different. It will be placed on the side instead of the top, so it will be oriented correctly when playing in landscape mode, and like the OnePlus 7 Pro, it will have a motorized pop-up mechanism. Meanwhile, the main rear camera is 64 MP and is said to be capable of capturing 8K video at 30 fps.

We won't have to wait long until we know for sure what the Lenovo Legion Pro 2 will offer. Stay tuned for more news.
