The cast for Season 2 of "The Circle" has not yet been finalized, but the show's executive producer told Variety what kind of people he is looking for.

"We wanted people from all different backgrounds. Other reality shows, whether it's 'The Real Housewives' or 'Jersey Shore,' are all a bunch of very similar characters. What 'The Circle' gave us was to cast a very diverse net across America," said Tim Harcourt.

"One of the positives that social media brings is that it brings together people who might otherwise never have come into contact.

Only about 20 to 25 people can appear in The Circle, but the show starts with a cast of eight. Then, when someone is "blocked" and voted out, a new contestant joins the game. Producers decide on the spot who to add, depending on who has dropped out.

The Circle is a reality competition series in which cast members are isolated in their own apartments. They have no physical contact with each other or the outside world (their cell phones, tablets, laptops, etc. are all confiscated).

The only way the cast of The Circle can communicate with each other is through text messages within a specially designed social media app. They create profiles with their own photos, relationship status, and biographies. Some contestants choose to be "catfish," adopt a different identity, and use photos that are not of themselves

.

Through the app, players can chat with the entire group or with specific contestants. The app also sends alerts for mini-games designed to help the contestants get to know each other better or win prizes (such as uploading another photo).

And for each episode, the app prompts players to rate each other. The top vote-getters become "influencers" and have the power to block players and exclude them from the game.

The winner of Circle Season 1 is Joey Sasso with a $100,000 cash prize. Shubham Goel was the runner-up; Sammie Cimarelli won the Fan Favorite prize and $10,000.

One catfishing player made it to the final five: Siobhan Williams posed as "Rebecca" with a photo of her girlfriend.
