There are hidden apps on your iPhone that you did not notice

Apple's iOS 14 is polished, clean, and gifted. And this time, the news is about hidden iOS apps.

The Code Scanner app is not on the home screen, nor in the App Library repository. Since this is a complete catalog of your best iPhone apps, it is very unusual for it not to be on this list.

According to GadgetHacks, the Code Scanner app has no default icon and does not appear in the App Library, where it has shortcuts and Safari bookmarks.

In other words, it is a truly secret app that is not immediately available. iOS 14 stands out as an app icon that only exists in one other special place, the Control Center.

Here is where you can find Code Scanner on an iPhone running iOS 14.

1. Swipe down on the iOS home screen and open "Search."

2. Type "Code Scanner" in the search field. Similarly, type "Scanner" or "Code."

3. The Code Scanner app will pop up. Tap the icon to launch the app.

If you are very familiar with Apple's iOS, you may have used Code Scanner on the iPhone 12 or other devices, and it may not be new to you. However, it is not present in the Control Center by default, so users will need to dive into the Control Center settings and manually set the layout of the screen that will display the app for the quick scan feature.

Adding Code Scanner to the Control Center screen makes accessing the app with a swipe and tap even easier: to place the icon in the iPhone's Control Center, select Control Center from the Settings app. From there, edit the screen and drag the Code Scanner button up from the commands that appear.

Those who do not use iOS at a more granular level may not notice the code scanner in the Control Center.

iPhone users can simply use the Code Scanner app itself and the code will appear in the in-app browser instead of Safari. This is an excellent part of the iOS interface and demonstrates the richness of Apple's user experience.

Apple has had many iterations of code scanners: older iOS versions used different names, like iOS 13's QR Code Reader, otherwise known as iOS 12's Scan QR Code. To complicate matters further, the terminology may have changed, but the functionality of the different versions of the scanner remains the same.

And remember, when you exit the code scanner, all of your scanned codes are lost and will never be accessible again. Be sure to use the codes only when you need them before discarding them.
