iOS15 has just been revealed in Apple's code, and macOS12 has also been exposed

An iOS 15 leak has almost revealed the official name of the next iPhone OS.

The leak was spotted by 9to5Mac in WebKit, the software behind Apple's Safari browser. Although it is only a glimpse, it seems undeniable that iOS 15 is the name of the software that iPhone users will be trying out in September.

To be precise, the name iOS 15 was found in code in WebKit open source repositories (an online database of past and developing WebKit versions) (screenshot below). It is unusual to see this name here, as these repositories usually hide their identity by calling future OS versions "TBA."

Unfortunately, while this discovery confirms the name of the next big iPhone software upgrade, there is no mention of features. As of the latest leak, there is no news on how Apple will follow up on iOS 14's widgets and App Library.

However, iOS 15 is rumored to be supported on iPhone 7 and later models. This would mean that users of the iPhone 6s and the original iPhone SE (the 2016 model, not the iPhone SE 2020) would be excluded.

The new version of iOS is again expected to appear with the next iPhone. If Apple follows this naming convention and does not use iPhone 12s, this year it will be iPhone 13.

For Mac fans, the repository also contained evidence of macOS 12. This follows macOS 11 Big Sur, the first macOS version change in 19 years, and macOS X has been used in various versions since 2001. Apple seems to be continuing to increase the number in this next version.

New versions of iOS and macOS are announced annually as part of Apple's WWDC conference, usually held in June. The announcements for this event usually take place in March, but in previous years they have been as late as mid-April. Therefore, it is likely that an official date will be announced soon from Cupertino.
