Gmc EV Hummer SUV Teased Just Before the big Launch — What You Need To Know

GMC's new Hummer EV SUV has been given a glimpse of its appeal in a new teaser video ahead of its launch on Saturday, April 3.

GMC already has a Hummer EV scheduled to hit the road in September in the form of the Hummer EV Edition1 pickup. But while we know a lot about that model, details about the SUV version remain scarce. The new teaser doesn't tell us much more than that, but it's enough to raise expectations even further.

Before you get too excited, the new teaser video, which you can watch below, is only 15 seconds long. After showing a full view of the pickup model, it fades into the silhouette of the SUV model, and overlay text confirms that the launch will take place on Saturday.

The voiceover also explains that reservations for the Hummer EV SUV will be available that day, which is no surprise given that the Edition 1 truck sold out within an hour of its release.

From the silhouette shots, we know that the SUV model will have a spare tire on the tailgate. It is also expected to have a third row of seats, whereas the pickup has only two rows, given that it appears slightly longer than the other versions.

Aside from the first teaser, which is as opaque as this video, most of what we know about the Hummer EV SUV comes from a presentation GM officials gave at the Barclays Global Automotive Conference in November.

In that presentation, three top GM officials sat in front of three vehicles, one of which was the Hummer EV SUV. Like the pickup, this was a black and white model, suggesting the possibility of only one color option.

The SUV version of the Hummer EV is expected to be very similar to the Edition 1 pickup truck version, except for its profile, which is not a bad thing.

The pickup version is absolutely packed with cutting-edge technology, including a full off-road package with skid plates and rock sliders, adaptive air suspension, active safety features, and very impressive performance specs.

We are especially excited about GM's Super Cruise hands-off feature. This is basically the closest thing to a self-driving car you can get right now, and should be a step above something like Tesla's Autopilot, which requires one hand off the wheel at all times.

As one would expect from a Hummer, which is not known for doing things halfway, the Edition 1 is super-powerful on- and off-road: 1,000 horsepower and is slated to go from 0-60 mph in just three seconds.

It has a range of 350 miles, and its fast-charging technology allows it to travel 100 miles in just 10 minutes if a 350 kW charging station can be found.

Pricing details for the Hummer EV SUV will probably be revealed this weekend along with everything else, but it is unlikely to be cheap: the Edition1 pickup model available this year will start at $112,595. A slightly cheaper model will be available in the next few years, but even the lowest EV3X, which will be available in 2023, will cost $90,000.

We also don't know exactly when the Hummer EV SUV will hit the road, but 2022 seems likely for this SUV. We will have more details after this weekend's reveal.
