The Disney Plus show "Obi-Wan Kenobi," which will begin production next month, will feature new and old faces. We already know that Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader and star Ewan McGregor as the middle-aged Jedi Master. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Pease, who played Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru in "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones," will also join the cast.

And that's not all: Disney has revealed that the new "Star Wars" actors are headed to a galaxy far, far away. They are Kumail Nanjiani, O'Shea Jackson Jr, Sung Kang, Rupert Friend, Moses Ingram, Simone Kessel, and Benny Safdie.

Details on the characters to be played by the new cast are still unknown. However, fans are already excited about the inclusion of well-known actors like Nanjiani (he will appear in another Disney film later this year, Marvel's The Eternals).

Jackson is Ice Cube's son and played his father in Straight Outta Compton, and Kang plays Han in the Wild Speed series. Varma played Ellaria Sand in "Game of Thrones," and Friend is known for "Homeland" and "Young Victoria. Ingram appeared in "Queen's Gambit" and Kessel has appeared in "Of Kings and Prophets" among others. Safdie is an independent filmmaker and wrote and directed "Uncut Gems" with his brother Joshua.

The "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series has been in production for years. The project was first announced at the 2019 D23 Expo, where it was reported that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was not satisfied with the initial script.

However, those issues were apparently resolved, and Kennedy highlighted Obi-Wan Kenobi at Disney Investor Day last December. She revealed that Christensen would return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader following his appearances in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith (and a voice cameo in 2019's Rise of Skywalker).

Obi-Wan Kenobi will be played by writer/director Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes of The Mandalorian.

Filming for Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin in April. However, given the amount of special effects the show will require, the first episodes will not premiere until the spring or summer of 2022.
