The Witcher Season 2 Leaked Set photos give us our first look at the wild hunt

The latest images leaked from the set of The Witcher Season 2 give us our first look at the fearsome Wild Hunt.

The photos were taken by The Daily Mail and were surreptitiously shot from a chilly beach set in Devon, southern England.

The images show various warriors riding across the beach on horseback, wearing elaborate armor and wielding rather intimidating weapons. Fans speculate that they are the Red Riders of the Wild Hunt, the most fearsome foes in the entire Witcher lore.

The Wild Hunt first appeared in the second novel in the Witcher book, A Time of Contempt, written by Anjay Sapkowski. It also plays a very important role in CD Projekt Red's "The Witcher" video game series.

Anyone who has played The Witcher 3 knows what a formidable foe these ghostly beings are. It is certainly a step up from any enemy that Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia faced in the first season of the hit Netflix series.

Speaking of Geralt, neither Cavill nor any of the other stars of The Witcher are in this set photo. This may indicate that Season 2 will only introduce the Wild Hunt to viewers, rather than placing it at the center of the plot.

We already know quite a bit about "The Witcher" Season 2. It will adapt the events of the novels "Elven Blood" and "A Time of Contempt" and include at least one story from the anthology "Sword of Destiny."

Official set photos show Princess Siri in training at the Witcher's fortress Kea Morhen, a major story arc in the second season. New cast members were also revealed, including Simon Callow and Adjoa Ando, who most recently appeared in the hit Netflix show "Bridgerton."

Filming for the second season of the popular fantasy series was initially delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, but as these set photos show, it appears to be on schedule.

The Witcher season 2 release date is currently unknown, but given that the first season premiered in December 2019, it would not be surprising if Netflix continues the tradition by launching S2 in time for the 2021 holiday season. No wonder. Of course, the pandemic could have affected the planned release schedule, so we will have to wait and see on this point.
