Apple has made it easy to ditch Android for iPhone — here's how

If you've been using a relatively recent Android phone and decided to switch to an iPhone, you're in luck - because Apple has made it even easier to trade in your device and switch.

Apple has added even more devices to its trade-in program, changing not only how much you can charge for your old phone (as spotted by MacRumors). If you got a Google Pixel 4a, Pixel 5, or Samsung Galaxy Note 20 late last year, Apple will gladly take it back.

The trade-in credit for the Pixel 5 is worth $350, the Pixel 4a is $180, and the Galaxy Note 20 is $425. Considering that all of these phones are less than a year old, that's not a lot of money, but the savings you get on a new iPhone is better than nothing.

In fact, if you trade in your Pixel 5, you'll get enough credit to purchase a $399 iPhone SE 2020 outright. The actual value of your trade-in depends on whether the device is scratched, dented, or not working properly, so don't accidentally break your Pixel 5 and try to pawn it off on Apple for a quick $350.

Sadly, Apple has also traded down the trade-in value of many older devices:

Interestingly, some of Samsung's older Galaxy devices have actually gone up in value. It is not clear why, but perhaps it is based on demand or on the fact that these are the types of phones people are likely to upgrade soon. These models are:

If you are using a model that is not eligible for trade-in, Apple will take it off your hands for recycling. You won't get any money for it, but it also won't cost you anything .

So if you are ready to switch from Android, now might just be the time. You should certainly get it soon, before any more flagship phones go on sale and the value of your current device drops even further. Details on how the trade-in works can be found on Apple's website.
