Huawei P50Pro Plus Camera Just Leaked — Galaxy S21Ultra Should be Worried

If you thought the Samsung Galaxy S21 lacked a camera, take a look at the ridiculous five-sensor array on the back of the Huawei P50 Pro Plus.

The images on this page come from a Twitter leak from user HoiINDI, and these rendered images fill in some key details about Huawei's upcoming flagship phone. These rendered images fill in some important details about Huawei's next flagship phone.

The last major leak (via OnLeaks on Voice) showed a phone with a curved 6.6-inch screen, a punch hole notch in the center, and a unique camera bump consisting of two large circles. We now see how these are filled with a total of five sensors.

Looking back at the specs of the Huawei P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus, we can make some guesses as to what these cameras are. The main camera will most likely be Huawei's 50MP RYYB sensor.

To this will probably be added an ultra-wide camera with a 40MP sensor and two 8MP telephoto cameras, one with 3x optical zoom and the other with 10x optical zoom. The last sensor is not a camera, but a time-of-flight (TOF) sensor, which assists the other sensors in focusing and photographic effects.

This is quite similar to Samsung's current top model, the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The Ultra uses an even larger 108MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and two 10MP telephoto cameras with 3x and 10x lossless zoom, respectively. This is joined by a laser autofocus sensor.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, currently our top smartphone for photography, is not at all comparable in terms of hardware. It has three 12MP cameras (main, ultra-wide angle, and telephoto), plus a LiDAR sensor for photo effects. However, Apple's world-class post-processing means that it will overwhelm phones with much more powerful sensors.

We still don't know much more about the P50 series than what we expect to see on the market in the coming months. What seems almost certain is that since it is a Huawei phone, it will not offer Google apps. Nor will it be sold directly in the U.S., as the U.S. government has raised security concerns.

Huawei phones often excel in photography, but for the reasons above, they are not on our list of best camera phones; we would love to see how the P50 compares to top manufacturers like Samsung and Apple.
