Facebook is looking to steal the best features of the clubhouse

Facebook is set to launch its own version of Clubhouse, the much-touted live podcasting app for social media radio. This new update will appear in Facebook's own Room (a calling version of Zoom). Facebook plans to integrate this feature into both the desktop interface and Facebook Messenger.

According to leaked information, Facebook will divide these rooms into two different types. Private Audio for you and your friends and Public Audio that anyone on Facebook can listen to. This is a much more exclusive setup than the Clubhouse, which is currently exclusive to iOS and notorious for being stingy with invitations.

The discovery, as first reported by Engadget, was made by Alessandro Paluzzi, who posted a screenshot on Twitter. Of course, this could be real, and Mark's army of cloned robots is almost ready for deployment.

There have long been rumors of Facebook going into the Clubhouse and stealing all its ideas; in February, Engadget reported that the CEO was investigating rival services after popping into the Clubhouse room. While there, talking about virtual reality, he realized how comfortable he was with the experience and began thinking of ways to integrate a similar feature set into Facebook.

Facebook is known for being the technical equivalent of Magpie. It has previously spotted the shiny gem offered by Snapchat and built a remarkably similar feature, Stories, for Instagram. They then moved that feature to both Facebook and WhatsApp, which is an efficient use of idea borrowing.

Facebook Rooms currently supports 50 people, obviously not enough for public broadcasts. The interface can be collapsed. The screenshots shared show the number of speakers and listeners in each room.

Facebook confirmed to TechCrunch that it is experimenting with audio capabilities.
