It looks like the launch of iMac2021 is Imminent — here's Why

The latest macOS public beta has just arrived, and inquisitive netizens have spotted references to two new iMac 2021 models. These are machines rumored to feature the Apple Silicon chip.

According to 9to5Mac, there are references to the iMac 21,1 and iMac 21,2 in macOS Big Sur 11.3 beta 5. However, the site is quick to point out that these numbers do not correlate with the new rumored size of the iMac 2021.

Instead, the site confirmed that both units of the iMac 2021 have the same codename as the iMac mentioned in another report earlier this year. The key detail here is that what were called J456 and J457 will have 21.5-inch and 27-inch displays and Apple Silicon chips.

We have recently heard more about the new series of iMacs, and they are rumored to make an appearance at Apple's April event along with the new iPad Pro 2021, AirTags, and other new products.

Given that Apple just discontinued the iMac Pro and some 21.5-inch iMac models, it seems certain that the iMac 2021 is being prepared. More recently, an app developer noticed a crash report informing him that an ARM-based iMac was using his app, which has led to further speculation.

Bloomberg reports that the iMac 20201 will have a new design that mimics Apple's Pro Display XDR. As a result, the bezels will be thinner and a more immersive viewing experience is expected. Given Apple's push to develop its own products, an Apple silicon chip is also almost certain.

Given how well the M1 chip performed in the MacBook Air M1 and MacBook Pro M1, it is clear that the Apple Silicon will improve performance.

There are also rumors of an M1X chip that is significantly more powerful than the standard M1 chip. Little has been said about when or where it will appear, but desktop machines are a sensible option; the M1X chip is rumored to have eight performance cores, twice as many as the original M1 chip

. However, Mac fans will have much to look forward to in the coming weeks. We will bring you updates in Tom's Guide as soon as they are announced.
