Did you think Black Widow's release date was locked in at May 7? But Disney has reversed itself. The movie Black Widow, which Disney had been adamant about releasing on Disney Plus, will now be available on the streaming service on July 9, the same day it was released. This is big news in Disney's announcement of movie releases, as Cruella will be released theatrically on Friday, May 28, and will also appear on Disney Plus. Disney is not paying for all of its films, and the Disney + Pixar film "Luca" will be released for free on Disney Plus, as will "Soul" this December.

Disney has not announced pricing for Cruella and Black Widow, but they are expected to remain at $30. That's a great price for families who don't travel to movie theaters, but very expensive considering that regular video-on-demand movies cost $15 or $20. HBO Max, for example, is offering a big Warner Bros. movie for free for a monthly fee of $15.

This news means that all audiences will be able to see "Black Widow" on the same day, whether or not they are willing to return to the cinema during the still ongoing pandemic.

Disney also announced new theatrical release dates for five upcoming films, including the Marvel film "Shan Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings."

The move to put Black Widow on premiere access is a no-brainer if you ask us. Black Widow is one of the few Avengers characters that has never had a solo film before. Furthermore, the original release date was set for May 2020, but the film has since been delayed numerous times, most recently this time from May to July.
