[HP Envy x360 15 and Envy 17 are HP's latest notebooks targeted at creatives on a tight budget. Each looks attractive, but the most attractive on paper is the 15-inch convertible because it can be configured with either Intel or AMD, up to a 4K OLED panel and discrete graphics; the Envy 17 is Intel-only; the Envy 17 is a 15-inch convertible with a 4K OLED panel and discrete graphics.

One way HP is targeting creators is with HP Enhanced Lighting. Also, as HP continues to slim down the bezels, the screen-to-body ratio is 88.7%. On the other hand, the Envy 17 also supports 4K (no OLED) and has a screen-to-body ratio of 86.3%, which is not bad.

The HP Envy x360 15 starts at $749 for the AMD-based model and $899 for the Intel-based model; the Envy 17 starts at $999 and is currently available for pre-order only at Best Buy for $1249 for the Core i7, 12GB RAM, 512GB SSD model.

Both the HP Envy x360 15 (and Envy 17) will be available this April. They are available for pre-order now.

The HP Envy x360 will be available in "Nightfall Black" if purchasing the AMD configuration, or "Natural Silver" for the Intel model. As noted above, HP has reduced the bezel, and HP has also increased the size of the touchpad, making it 19% larger.

HP also includes a rechargeable tilt pen stylus that attaches magnetically to the side; the Envy 17 does not have this option.

The Envy x360 15 (and Envy 17) has a physical privacy shutter, so you can control your privacy as well.

The Envy x360 15 has a Thunderbolt 4 (USB4) port, dual SuperSpeed USB Type-A (one with sleep and charge, one without sleep and charge), headphone/microphone jack, AC power, and HDMI 2 One each.

HP sells the Envy x360 15 with 5000 series AMD Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 CPUs and 11th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors. entry-level $749 system with a Ryzen 5 5500U, It should be quite affordable for users. If more power is needed, an upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5700U is only $120; an upgrade from a Core i5-1135G7 to a Core i7-1165G7 is also $120.

As for graphics, both Ryzen-based models have Radeon graphics, while the Core i7 model can be equipped with an Nvidia GeForce MX450 GPU for an additional $130.

HP also announced a new mouse aimed at creatives, the HP 930 Creator wireless mouse, which HP calls "the most customizable mouse for creatives" and touts seven customizable buttons. While this may be a record for a productivity mouse, it should be noted that some gaming mice have many more programmable buttons.

Applications that support customization include Chrome, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, and Zoom.

Priced at $89.99, it will be available in April; HP claims it will offer up to 12 weeks of battery life.

Laptops under $1,000 are sometimes hard to spot, but HP's Envy x360 looks to be one of the best.
