Android phones Just got a big Photo Upgrade — What You Need to Know

Improvements to the Android interface have made Google Lens more prominent, more visible, and easier to use in conjunction with Google Photos. Rolled out in version 5.33 of the application, Google Lens now plays a more active role in Google Photos by determining which photos can benefit from the Lens analysis tool.

It seems like only yesterday that Google added Google Lens to its Photos app. Compared to a real-world search engine, the Google Lens tool is a nifty way to extract relevant information from Google Photos.

The new tool improves the information that can be gleaned from viewing a single item in the Google Photos app when the user scrolls down to an expandable information window after tapping the lens icon.

The improved interface includes a new "Search in this photo" section under the date, which appears on the screen only when Google has analyzed the image and believes the Google Lens is worth using on that photo.

This works well in some scenarios, especially if the image contains text, Google Lens will highlight it in blue as before. When users tap on the highlighted text, they can copy it to another app, translate it, listen to it by voice, or search for it.

These are not completely new additions to the Google Lens app, but Google has tweaked the interface to make it easier to activate Lens features using a handy icon at the bottom of the Google Photos app.

Google Lens is a handy and great tool for optical character recognition (OCR) on various best Android phones. The new and improved interface is another step in Google's bid to broaden its lens offerings, following increased integration in camera and search.

The tweaking of Google's tool makes it more top-of-mind so users know it is readily available and freely usable in Google Photos.
